Pyramid Theatre Company is excited to announce the launch of a new “Creating Black History at DMACC” event in Des Moines, with support from Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), the DMACC Diversity Commission and the DMACC Urban Campus Student Activities Council.
This event kicks off at 11 a.m. on Thur., Feb. 29, at the DMACC Urban Campus in Des Moines, and will feature two performances of “The Meeting,” a one-act play that depicts an imagined conversation between Dr. Martin Luther King., Jr., and Malcolm X, as well as a variety of presentations, a docuseries screening, delicious food and live music.
The “Celebrating Black History at DMACC” event schedule is as follows:
11 a.m., Doors open at the DMACC Urban Campus, Bldg. 7 Student Life and STEM Center, 1144 7th Street, Des Moines (view map)
11 a.m., First presentation of “The Meeting” by Jeff Stetson, produced by Pyramid Theatre Company and DMACC, followed by a talk back
6 p.m., Screening of The Heart Health Docuseries, presented by Heart 2 Heart, a docuseries featuring five Black Iowans who share their personal stories and heart health journeys, and clinicians also provide their input from a medical standpoint. This screening will be followed by a talk back
7 p.m., Second presentation of “The Meeting” by Jeff Stetson, produced by Pyramid Theatre Company and DMACC, followed by a talk back
7 p.m., Performance from Bridges 2 Harmony Gospel Choir from Theodore Roosevelt High School, directed by Alexander Gray.
There is no cost to attend “Celebrating Black History at DMACC,” but free-will donations at the event will be welcomed as a fundraiser for Iowa Juneteenth and a Back2School Drive for non-traditional college students.
